Actor Disowned For Gay Role
Indian actor Yuvraaj Parashar, who starred in a film considered the country’s Brokeback Mountain, has been thrown out of his home and disowned by his family for playing a gay man on screen, reports Times of India. The film, Dunno Y … Na Jaane Kyun, features the first male same-sex kiss not played for laughs in the history of Bollywood, one of the world’s most prolific film industries, but one that has never tackled storylines revolving around gay male characters. The newspaper reports that Parashar’s father is ready to go to court and officially cut off ties with his son.“His mother is totally devastated,” the elder Parashar says. “We are a respected family and I’m appalled that he is playing a gay man’s role. We’re finished. All the dreams and hopes we had built around him are over. For just a film role, he has lost out on his blood ties. We don’t want to see his face ever… not even when we are dying.”

At least they didn’t burn down the theaters in India this time… but…. that reminds me I should make a post about Fire - one of my favoritest movies about queer indian womyn

I love that movie fire….but I just cant understand the ignorance around the world…thats your son for cryin out loud but what can you expect from people that stone women for winking at someone.

Racism: Just as bad as homophobia
Guess you missed the memo.
Another perspective to consider: the young man who took a huge risk to play this role, “even though” he came from “people that stone women for winking at someone” (seriously, could you have put this any more vile a way?). He is obviously not homophobic and felt the role was important enough to lose his family over. “Even though” he is Indian himself.
Also, perhaps you do not keep abreast of your own national news. Every day in your country,  people are disowning their children for being gay. People are brutally murdering people for being gay. Every day, gay people are being bullied into killing themselves. Stories such as these are, in fact, CURRENT NEWS coming from your country. Think it’s not happening? Then you’re ignorant.
See, the thing about ignorance, whether it’s homophobic or racist: it’s indiscriminate. Anyone can be ignorant. As you’ve demonstrated right here.

Honestly you and the other one can shut your pie holes and racist really?? Ignorant yes and I will take responsibility for the statement being so, apologize not so much. And 2 I never said this country (thanks for your “ASSumption that this is my country”) did not have its issues because it have a shitload of them and really which country doesnt.  You or the next one like you missed a couple sessions of reading comprehension because you fail to realize that I understand what he is going through and Im disgusted and feel very sorry for him and his family but it is still no reason to turn your back on him…long story short you nor the next one know anything about me of my family of the different ethnicities that make up my family so stop pointing fingers about B.S and focus on the issue at hand!
p.s you know what grinds my gears more…your both acting like what I said is a lie and situations where women are endangered dont happen there.

Errrrmmm… you DO realise situations where women are endangered happen WHERE YOU ARE TOO, right? RIGHT?
Or is one in six women getting raped in America every day a statistic you just prefer to shut your eyes to?
What is racist about your attitude is the flippant, dismissive way you have conflated countries and cultures, presumed in your manner of speaking that misogyny and homophobia are restricted only to some countries and cultures rather than an international epidemic and persistently derailed the key topic, as well as chosen only to examine it from certain perspectives.
When called on your shit, your only response is to throw a tantrum and scream “SHUDDUP YOU DUN UNNERSTAAAHNDD ME”. That’s not how you win an argument. If anything, it just throws more light on the flaws in your initial response because it confirms you have no evidence to truly back your attitudes up.
The other woman, tiaramerchgirl, identified herself as a South Asian woman. I don’t care if you don’t respect what I have to say, but at least show her some. She knows what she’s talking about. You might want to heed the words of ardhra too.
